Cowboy Curries Whangaruru Stayaway 2018
A great fun weekend as always at the Cowboy Currie’s Whangaruru Stayaway held on 20th & 21st January. While the weather and the fish may not have played ball, we hear that some 23 “fishers” did at the BBQ on the Beach at Whangaruru!! With complimentary “refreshments” (and added extras we’re told thank you Darrell !) apparently a great night was had by all.
But…..on to the fishing….. and yet again it was the Lady Anglers who were to the fore!!!!.
It was Shilleena Harris on “Vitalis” who livened things up with not one but two Mahimahi weighing in at 7.78 and 10.60kg (a pin fish no less!). Shilleena also took out the Sandra Anne Trophy for the full member with the heaviest gamefish of the contest
Val Going fishing on “Outahere” was the only angler who managed to land a qualifying Snapper – well done Val!
BUT Day Two belonged to the team on “Incommunicado” with Shelbie Barrett taking the top honours, including the Steve Currie Memorial Trophy for the Angler Most Points Overall, with her nice Stripey weighing in at 99.80kg.
A big thank to the Currie Family for their sponsorship, Pete Saul for lending us his Ute and to Keith and Chris Wellington for taking all the gear up to Whangaruru for the BBQ and to “Starkie” for kindly “volunteering” for the prizegiving!!
