The President's Report August 09

PRESIDENT'S REPORT - 65th AGM

I am very pleased to report to you all that the club has had another pleasing year given the current economic climate. The weather had its say once again, with note during the One Base. Despite this, a good time was had by all who attended. The official club tally of Striped Marlin this season stands at 245 with 126 of these tagged compared to a total of 136 the previous year. So all in all, a relatively good year for the club. The WDSAC teams in the Nationals Contest again performed with distinction, and it's pleasing to see the number of members making the effort to fish this prestigious event. Our junior team took junior honors and 9th overall at the 40th anniversary BOI International yellowtail competition this year, going three from three fish on the final day to come from behind to beat the reigning champs from the Whakatane Sportfishing club by a narrow margin. Well done to Sam Purdie, Lewis Dobbs, Corey Bellamy and Josh Armstrong. Who ably represented the club and showed great aptitude with both rod & reel.

The Club once again finds itself in a secure financial position, which is pleasing considering the completion of the new toilet & office upgrade, increases in tournament expenditure, the new bar auditing system, and increases in wages and salaries to name a few. I'm sure our Treasurer will enlighten us in regard to these later. This leaves the club with a net cash surplus of $84,072 with a net operating profit of $33,581 down on last year but still a reasonable result all things considered.

Once again the WDSAC sponsors have been superb in there continued support for our club. It goes without saying to keep these valued contributor's to our club in mind members, when out there purchasing. I'm also pleased to report the club has secured significantly more sponsorship this year than last, which is a credit to the Funding & Sponsorship Committee. Although not shown until next year's report it was pleasing to see virtually the same Grid Map revenue at our recent auction, and growing interest for sponsorship in this year's Tournament schedule. The WDSAC is also pleased to announce it will host a National ITM Fishing contest in the first week of March this coming season. A huge boost for club and community as a whole. Thanks to Shane Heape and all at ITM for this great opportunity to showcase our Club, community & coastline. Whilst this event is hosted by the club it has been agreed to remove our Trades & Contractors Tournament from this year's tournament schedule.

It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge our staff at this point. To Sue and the team in the office, thank you for your continued assistance and diligence To Janet, Tru, Pat & Dianne, It's been a huge year, with many changes to procedures and protocol for the betterment of the club. It's been a challenge for us throughout this year, and we still have plenty to do. But I'm sure with your continued application and support, we can achieve something well worthy of the effort for the club and its members. To Mary and her little helper Max. Thanks for continually dragging yourselves out of bed and cleaning up after us while we sleep off the night's indulgence. To Pauline and Vicki for their help with the juniors. To all of you I've missed, and to those of you who attended our working bee's, did firewood, erected the tent and the many other chores that go with making our club what it is, Thank you. And although not club staff, John & Julie & all at Moocha's, thank you for your continued contribution to the club. And it's with pleasure I can announce to the members, that the committee has renewed Moocha's Bistro contract for a further 2 years. Keep up the good work & thank you.
