Warren Hay Marine & Shimano Tutukaka Small Boats Tournament in conjunction with Furuno 2019 Results

Back to its two day format, the Warren Hay Marine & Shimano Tutukaka Small Boats Tournament in conjunction with Furuno promised to be a beauty!!!  Sadly the weather gods did not deliver and neither did the fish!!
Despite the weather some 47 boats braved the conditions on Day One and most even stayed out the whole day!  It was Annette McFarlane fishing with husband Glenn on “Ocean Spirit” who was first on the board for the day (and last for Billfish as it turned out!) with a tag and release Stripey estimated at 100kg.
The only other fish for Day One went to Cameron Duckmanton on “Marlure” with a Yellowtail KIngfish on 8kg line, just squeaking over the line weight mark at 8.98kg.
Day Two promised so much more………….there were definitely a few more fish seen & hooked but unfortunately also a fair few dropped, and a number who turned out to have sharp teeth so were released!!
First on the board for Day Two was Lars Christensen with his 120.2kg Stripey on “Game Time” followed by Dennis McComber fishing on Aquatical with a Stripey weighing in at 82.4kg. And sadly that was it for Day Two !!
So it was that the Top Prize came down to just .2 points (yep that’s not 2 but .2 !!).  For the second year in a row it was the “Game Time” team who will not only be winging their way to Vanuatu courtesy of the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club and Air Vanuatu, but will be staying 7 nights at the Guest House in the beautiful Havannah Harbour, Vanuatu courtesy of the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club and Havannah Harbour Fishing Charters.
While the fish may not have come out to play, the Anglers certainly did with some great fun and of course some great lucky draws, including all of the sections not won!!
A huge thank you to all of our generous Small Boats sponsors and especially to Warren Hay Marine & Shimano and Furuno – another great tournament!!
